Negative Thinking—it zaps us!
One bit of resistance we can control is our negative thinking. This thinking doesn’t work for us---it builds negative momentum, leading us into a downward spiral and robs us of our energy and our motivation. Negative thoughts may be conscious or may be outside your awareness. We want to become aware of them so we can control and master our thinking because that is what frees us to act. You might be telling yourself: “It’ll never work…” “It’s too irresponsible…” “It’s too much of a risk…”…or some other self-talk that takes you away from what you truly want.
What are you telling yourself that doesn’t allow you to move forward on your desire? Take a moment and write down all the negative thoughts and feelings you have around the event in question. By writing them down, you’ll become more aware of what you are thinking. As you write, note what you are feeling. contribute directly to their effectiveness and personal leadership.
Transform Negative into Positive
We can transform the energy of negative thinking and build upward momentum by changing our thinking. We take the same energy that spirals us down, and use it to take us up—and it re-energizes us and builds optimism. Take a moment to write down all the reasons why this project/undertaking will work. For instance, “ I have the skills…I’ve earned the right…I have all the knowledge and resources…I deserve to be successful and fulfilled…”
Take out a piece of paper a few minutes to write down the reasons why you could/would begin to make this a reality…. and watch what happens…
